Market Art Fair: Stockholm, Sweden

For Market Art Fair 2026, Gerdman Gallery is pleased to present Materiality of Memory,

featuring works by emerging Swedish artists Sigrid Soomus and Johnny Höglund. Both

are recent graduates of Malmö Art Academy (MFA 2025) and currently based in the

Malmö region. United by a shared interest in the intersections of material, body, and

memory, they approach materiality as both a subject and carrier of experience.

In their respective practices, material becomes a site where time, presence, and per-

ception and inscribed. Höglund works through the contemplative slowness of painting,

allowing surface and gesture to accumulate as quiet traces of presence and duration.

Soomus, in contrast, engages sculpture through a tactile and experimental use of ma-

terials such as wood, latex, and metal, creating forms that hover between the corporeal

and the abstract.

Materiality of Memory invites viewers to reflect on how surface, texture, and transfor-

mation generate emotional resonance and attachment. Through their distinctive, yet

complementary approaches, Soomus and Höglund open a space where material and

body intertwine; an intuitive, sensory flow that mirrors both the fragility and persistence

of memory.
